Perception

Walking through pre-dawn light

figures crouch in murky shadows,

strange beings that seem to move in measured animation.

A misshapen kangaroo huffs at grass, a hunched owl grips a gnarled branch…

I blink and they are gone,

turned to stump and old tree as the light shifts,

pulling back night’s shroud…

but they wait, still and silent in my mind

ever nudging at the door of my perception. © CC
